The Mercer County Career Center has received an $85,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The announcement was made by Representative Tim Bonner, who represents parts of Mercer and Butler counties. The grant comes through the Career and Technical Centers Competitive Equipment Grants program.

The funding aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of students at the Career Center, focusing on high-priority occupations. Students will benefit from both classroom instruction and hands-on learning experiences, particularly in applying academic knowledge to construction projects.

"Funding our career center directly invests resources into our students and equips them with the essential skills to support our area’s workforce," stated Bonner. "I am proud to have advocated for these funds to support opportunities for our students to explore other educational and career paths."

Located in Mercer, the Career Center is one of over 80 similar institutions across Pennsylvania. These centers help thousands of students earn industry certifications for jobs that are in high demand locally, setting them on a path toward successful careers.

The grants provided under this program can reach up to $85,000 per school entity. They are intended for updating or purchasing equipment necessary for training students enrolled in approved career and technical education programs.
