Rep. Tim Bonner has announced the nomination of Jeremiah Sturgeon Chapel for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. The Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office approved this nomination on February 4, and it will now be reviewed by the National Park Service within 45 days.
"Jeremiah Sturgeon Chapel in Pine Township, Mercer County, is a significant part of the Grove City community," stated Rep. Bonner. He emphasized that listing on the National Register would enable George Junior Republic to seek essential grant funding for preserving the chapel's structure.
"It is important to preserve and honor the legacy of this historic treasure," he added, expressing his support for the nomination and anticipation for its final approval by the National Park Service.
The National Register of Historic Places was created in 1966 to assist in identifying, evaluating, and protecting historic and archaeological sites through public and private initiatives.
