Senator Michele Brooks has announced over $1.5 million in funding for the Mercer County Agricultural and Conservation Community Learning Center Project located in Coolspring Township. This initiative aims to transform two structures at Munnell Run Farm into a hub for education and community engagement accessible to all residents of Mercer County.
The new facility will include a library and resource center with public computer access, ensuring reliable broadband connectivity. It will also feature an indoor aquaponics farm that operates year-round, a community farm available for adoption during the growing season, as well as various seminars and workshops.
“I’m very pleased to be able to announce the funding for this innovative community project, and I want to thank the Mercer County commissioners for their partnership on this endeavor,” stated Senator Brooks. She highlighted that the project would enhance existing programs at Munnell Run Farm and the Mercer County Career Center while providing educational opportunities through reliable networks.
Mercer County Commissioner Ann Coleman expressed gratitude on behalf of her fellow commissioners, Bill Finley and Tim McGonigle. “Their steadfast commitment to our shared countywide constituents will allow us to take a giant step toward enriching lives through sustainable agriculture, education, employment skills development, and health initiatives through high-quality broadband access,” she said.
The grant is part of a $45 million initiative funded by the federally backed Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program. This program supports projects that improve high-speed broadband access essential for work, education, and health monitoring through community anchor institutions.
