Rep. Parke Wentling has announced that several schools in the 7th House District have been awarded funding from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s School Safety and Security Committee. The grants are designated for nonpublic schools, municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and approved security vendors providing school security services.
Two non-public schools received targeted safety grants: the Shenango Valley Catholic school system was awarded $50,000, while Crossroads private school received a total of $74,000 for both its boys' and girls' divisions.
In addition to these awards, eight school districts and one charter school obtained funding for safety and mental health initiatives. Farrell Area School District received $113,132; Greenville Area School District was granted $123,542; Hermitage School District obtained $138,319; Jamestown Area School District secured $107,099; Keystone Education Center Charter School was given $70,000; Reynolds School District received $118,043; Sharon City School District was awarded $136,906; Sharpsville Area School District got $118,724; and West Middlesex Area School District received $113,232.
"As a former teacher, I know how important school safety is," said Wentling. "Thanks to this funding, our students and teachers across the 7th District will be safer and have a better experience at school. The safer our schools are, the better they will do."
