Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) has revealed that over $392,000 in federal Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) funds will be allocated to support a significant project in the City of Hermitage. The initiative, known as the Route 18 Sidewalk Project, aims to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians in the area.
Brooks emphasized the impact of the project, stating, "Adding this vital new sidewalk access is going to safely increase opportunities for our school kids to participate in the many activities found at the Shenango Valley YMCA." She further highlighted the diverse range of programs available at the YMCA that will benefit from the improved infrastructure.
In addition, Brooks highlighted the broader community benefits of the Route 18 Sidewalk Project, noting, “This project will provide a critical component to ensure a safe connection for not only students, but also adults that will use the pathway to this very popular facility.” The project is set to establish a safe pathway between the Hermitage School District campus and the Shenango Valley YMCA complex through the installation of 1,100 feet of sidewalk along Route 18.
The funding for this essential infrastructure enhancement is being sourced from the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program, underscoring the commitment to improving pedestrian safety and accessibility in the region.
