Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) has announced that a funding of nearly $9.4 million has been approved for infrastructure improvement projects in Sandy Lake Borough and the Borough of Greenville. The funding will be used for water system improvements in Sandy Lake Borough and storm sewer improvements in the Borough of Greenville.

Sandy Lake Borough will receive a grant of over $4.2 million, along with a 1% low-interest loan of more than $4.1 million. The grant and loan will be used to address the issues in the drinking water distribution system, which currently experiences over 60 waterline breaks per year. The project aims to replace old pipes, install new waterlines, fire hydrants, and meters, and replace existing service lines. The improvements will serve approximately 238 residential customers in the Borough of Sandy Lake and 20 residential customers in a small adjacent portion of Sandy Lake Township. Sen. Brooks emphasized the importance of investing in this infrastructure project to deliver a dependable water supply to the communities and reduce maintenance and repair costs in the future.

The Borough of Greenville will receive a 1% low-interest loan of nearly $798,000 to upgrade a section of stormwater infrastructure. The project includes replacing a corroded pipe with new high-density polyethylene pipe, constructing retention ponds, and installing inlets and manholes. These upgrades will help prevent potential flooding and redirect stormwater away from the borough's business district. Sen. Brooks highlighted that the PENNVEST funding will also offset the costs to the residents for these upgrades.

The funding was approved by PENNVEST, a state program that provides low-interest loans and grants for infrastructure projects. The program supports the design, engineering, and construction of drinking water distribution facilities, stormwater conveyance, and wastewater treatment and collection systems.

This announcement comes as a significant step towards improving the infrastructure in Sandy Lake Borough and the Borough of Greenville. The funding will not only ensure a reliable water supply and prevent potential flooding but also reduce the financial burden on residents for these essential upgrades.
