Rep. Tim Bonner has announced a state grant exceeding $1.5 million for the development of a Mercer County Agricultural and Conservation Community Learning Center in Coolspring Township, Mercer County. The facility will be located near the Mercer County Career Center.
The funding aims to establish a community center that offers educational opportunities in modern agriculture, environmental conservation, and related fields. It will also provide resources for inclusive education, catering to individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the center will offer broadband internet access for county residents to assist with job searches, telehealth services, and other essential activities.
“The efforts of Mercer County’s commissioners, including Chairwoman Ann Colemen and commissioners Bill Finley and Tim McGonigle, as well as Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50), greatly assisted in delivering this funding for Mercer County,” stated Bonner. “It is my objective to constantly be supportive of projects which promote the education, health and well-being of our residents, and this project will exceed that goal.”
The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority awarded the grant through the Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program, funded under the America Rescue Plan Act of 2021. This program provides $45 million in competitive grants to community anchor institutions and local government units for various community projects.
