Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) has issued a statement congratulating Oakview Elementary School for receiving the 2024 National Blue Ribbon designation from the United States Department of Education.

“It was my honor to present a Pennsylvania House citation to the Lakeview School District Board of Directors and Superintendent Dr. Keith Wolfe at their school board meeting recognizing Oakview Elementary School as the recipient of the National Blue Ribbon award for academic excellence and social skill development," said Bonner.

Bonner noted that Oakview Elementary is one of 13 schools in Pennsylvania to receive this recognition in 2024. He attributed this achievement to the dedication of students, teachers, administrators, and parents. "Lakeview School District has a longstanding reputation of producing excellence in the classroom and this national recognition demonstrates this once again," he added.

The representative also acknowledged Mercer Area High School of the Mercer Area School District for being recognized as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School. "It is truly a tribute to the public school system in Mercer County to have two of the thirteen schools recognized for such an award in Pennsylvania to be in our county," he stated, mentioning that only Philadelphia and Allegheny counties share similar recognition.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups.

“Again, congratulations to the Sailors and Mustangs,” Bonner concluded.
