The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) announced on Wednesday that the City of Meadville has been awarded a $30,000 grant through the WalkWorks program. The grant aims to develop an active transportation plan with improved walking and biking opportunities, according to Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50).

“Our municipalities need to focus their limited resources on construction, maintenance or improvement projects, so this additional funding helps local governments engage in the larger planning process,” Brooks stated. “I was happy to support the city’s application, as this grant will help them maximize investments in local transportation and infrastructure projects.”

A long-term goal for the city is connecting it to the Ernst Trail, which could be advanced with the use of the grant to develop an active transportation plan.

The city's active transportation plan will align with statewide themes including enhancing safety; connecting walking and bicycling networks; improving public health; and increasing economic mobility.
