Senator Michele Brooks (R-50) supported a bill in the Senate that would lead to significant tax cuts for families, job creators, and energy consumers in Pennsylvania. The bill, Senate Bill 269, aims to reduce the Personal Income Tax (PIT) rate and eliminate the Gross Receipts Tax on electric bills for residents starting in 2025.
"Reducing these taxes will help families handle the rising costs of groceries, put more gas in their cars, save up for a house, and invest in their future," stated Senator Brooks. The proposed tax cuts are expected to save taxpayers over $13 billion in the next five years, marking the most substantial tax cut for working families in Pennsylvania history.
Senator Brooks highlighted that the bill does not discriminate and is designed to benefit all residents of the commonwealth, irrespective of their life stage. Additionally, the legislation includes a provision for a Volunteer Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Tax Credit, offering eligible EMTs a $500 tax credit against their state tax liability.
"Our volunteer EMTs are in a state of crisis, and my hope is that this tax credit will help local communities in recruiting and retaining volunteer EMTs in the future," Senator Brooks emphasized.
The tax cuts proposed in Senate Bill 269 align with Senate Republican initiatives to shield taxpayers from excessive spending and unregulated government expansion. The bill has been forwarded to the House of Representatives for further review and consideration.
