Representative Parke Wentling of the 7th Legislative District in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, has revealed that the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has allocated over $1.5 million in grants for Community Learning Programs in the district. The funding, part of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, aims to establish and support centers offering academic, artistic, and cultural enrichment opportunities for students and families.

Among the grants awarded in the 7th Legislative District are $392,694 for the Farrell Area School District, $584,640 for the United Way of Mercer County's STEAM Afterschool Academics program, and $550,000 for the United Way of Mercer County's R.E.A.D. (Read Excel Achieve Dream) Elementary Afterschool Program.

Representative Wentling expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "As a former technology education teacher, I’m thrilled that we’re investing in Mercer County’s students both inside and outside the classroom. Programs like these are how we ensure our children have all the tools they need to reach their potential."

The grants provided by the PDE will play a crucial role in enhancing educational opportunities and fostering holistic development for students in the 7th Legislative District.
