WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued a statement after the United States Supreme Court ruled 9-0 against the State of Colorado's effort to remove former President Donald Trump from the Colorado ballot.
"The Supreme Court has unanimously struck down Colorado's effort to kick President Trump off the ballot," said Rep. Kelly. "Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a win for democracy and the American people!"
On December 19, 2023, the Colorado State Supreme Court ruled Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which was enacted after the Civil War to prevent former Confederates from returning to power in the U.S. government, could also be used to bar President Trump from the 2024 ballot. Colorado is one of more than a dozen states that will hold its primary election on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
