U.S. Representatives Mike Kelly, Brian Fitzpatrick, Debbie Dingell, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz have announced the relaunch of the House Cancer Caucus for the 119th Congress. The bipartisan group aims to intensify efforts in cancer research, treatment innovation, and support for affected families.
Rep. Kelly expressed his commitment as co-chair of the caucus: "I’m once again honored to serve as co-chair of the House Cancer Caucus. I look forward to working together with this bipartisan group to continue working to combat cancer and provide a brighter future for all Americans." He emphasized securing funding for research and promoting new treatments.
Rep. Fitzpatrick shared his personal connection to the cause: "I am proud to continue serving as Co-Chair of the House Cancer Caucus alongside a bipartisan group of lawmakers united in our commitment to this vital mission—a fight that is deeply personal for me." He highlighted past achievements like securing federal funding and driving medical innovation but acknowledged ongoing challenges.
"Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States," noted Rep. Dingell. She emphasized cross-party collaboration in raising awareness, advancing care, and supporting patients and their families.
Rep. Wasserman Schultz, a breast cancer survivor, expressed her dedication: “I am incredibly thrilled and honored to co-chair the House Cancer Caucus.” She aims to pursue policies benefiting previvors, survivors, and thrivers.
The relaunch occurs amid significant developments such as the FDA's ban on Red Dye No. 3—an effort supported by the caucus—and stark statistics from organizations like the American Cancer Society projecting over 2 million new diagnoses in 2025.
Key priorities include expanding research funding through institutions like NIH and NCI, accelerating treatment pathways via legislative measures, and addressing challenges faced by survivors and their families.
The Congressional Cancer Caucus remains committed to reducing cancer rates through legislative solutions, vital research funding, and elevating patient voices.
