U.S. Representative Mike Kelly recently acknowledged Eric Perkins, a resident of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, as a recipient of the Congressional Award Silver Medal. The recognition took place during an October 1st meeting at Rep. Kelly's office in Butler.
The Congressional Award is a non-partisan and voluntary program aimed at young Americans aged 14 to 24. It encourages participants to set goals in areas such as expedition and exploration, physical fitness, personal development, and voluntary public service. Participants can earn Bronze, Silver, or Gold Certificates and Medals.
Perkins began his journey with the Congressional Award at the age of 14 and is now a recent graduate of Geneva College. He has pursued his professional career by becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and working as a PIAA soccer official.
“It is with great pride and admiration that I recognize your exceptional accomplishments, and I thank you for your service and dedication to our community,” said Rep. Kelly. “You are an inspiration to others, and I have every confidence that you will continue to achieve remarkable success in all that you do.”
Perkins explained his focus for the award: "My focus for this award was serving those in my community through various ways, including volunteer income tax preparation and serving in soup kitchens." He volunteered as an income tax preparer through the VITA program at the Center for Community Resources in Butler. Additionally, he helped serve meals at New Beginnings Free Methodist Church on Center Ave in Butler.
Currently employed by the ATF, Perkins resides with his wife in their newly purchased home.
