Rep. Parke Wentling and Sen. Michele Brooks have announced funding for two projects in the 7th District, secured through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development's Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP). These funds originate from the Marcellus Legacy Fund established by Act 13 of 2012, which supports greenway and recreational development through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The city of Sharon will receive $166,970 to build a pedestrian walkway along the Shenango River. The project includes replacing the existing walkway with a new one, relocating utilities, and installing fencing alongside energy-efficient lighting.

Hermitage is set to receive $95,000 for lighting enhancements at the Hermitage Athletic Complex. This involves acquiring and installing a pre-built lighting system complete with pre-cast concrete bases, galvanized steel poles, and factory-tested electrical components.

"This is fantastic news for the Shenango Valley," said Wentling. "Both projects will be beneficial for everyone and help continue to make the 7th Legislative District one of the best places to live, work and raise a family."

Senator Brooks added, “I always appreciate working with local municipalities to access funding that provides the ability to expand recreational opportunities for local families and visitors alike. This project continues to build on the growth of downtown Sharon and capitalizes on its waterfront appeal.”
