WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) has voted in favor of six spending bills that will fully fund the federal government through fiscal year (FY) 2024. The budget process for FY24 includes more funding for various sectors, including the Defense Department, significant pay raises for military service members, and the reallocation of unused COVID-19 funds.

In a statement, Rep. Kelly highlighted the positive aspects of the budget, stating, "No budget is perfect in a divided government, but this year's plan includes significant wins for our military, our nation's borders, American families, and hardworking American taxpayers." He also emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility, reminding that "every dollar we spend in Washington first comes from the American taxpayer. I encourage everyone to read what's in the bill."

The budget includes provisions across different departments. For the Department of Defense, there is a notable increase in funding, a significant raise in military pay, and restrictions on funding for specific institutions. The Financial Services and General Government section focuses on reclaiming funds from certain areas, preventing certain bans, and prohibiting federal funding for abortion coverage.

In the Department of Homeland Security, the budget allocates resources for border security, technology investments, and increased support for Border Patrol Agents. The Department of Labor and the Department of Health & Human Services prioritize biomedical research, resources for rural communities, and the retrieval of unnecessary COVID-19 funds.

The budget also impacts the Legislative Branch by curbing bureaucratic growth and directing unspent amounts for debt and deficit reduction. Additionally, the Department of State sees a decrease in overall spending, with a focus on countering certain global challenges and maintaining commitments to key allies.

Rep. Kelly's vote for the budget comes after he secured funding for various projects in his district earlier this month. The approved budget now sets the stage for the government's operations and funding until FY 2024.
