WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Last week, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), Co-Chair of the Friends of Ireland Caucus, was recognized for his career in public service during the annual meetings between U.S. and Ireland leaders in Washington, D.C. The highlight of the gatherings was the event on Wednesday, March 13, where Rep. Kelly was honored by The Ireland Funds 32nd Annual National Gala.

At the gala, attended by Irish officials including Taoiseach of Ireland Leo Varadkar, Rep. Kelly expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, "It's always a privilege to break bread alongside our Irish colleagues here in Washington. I want to thank them for making their annual visit once again. I'm honored to receive this award, but the real honor is strengthening the ties between our two nations."

Reflecting on the shared history between the U.S. and Ireland, Rep. Kelly highlighted the significance of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations, emphasizing the contributions of Irish ancestors to the development of the United States. He remarked, "Like many in the United States, I'm proud to trace my roots back to Ireland. As we mark the 100th anniversary of United States-Irish diplomatic relations, it's important to remember the role that our Irish ancestors played in developing the United States and the role that so many still play today as we chart our future together."

The week's meetings culminated in a lunch on Friday, March 15, where Rep. Kelly, along with Friends of Ireland Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) and President Joe Biden, gathered with Irish leaders at the U.S. Capitol to further strengthen the bonds between the two nations.

In a symbolic gesture, President Biden declared March as Irish-American Heritage Month, underscoring the deep-rooted connections and ongoing collaboration between the United States and Ireland.
