HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) has announced that the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad will receive $682,512 in state funding for its Kerrtown Lead improvement project. The funding comes from the rail freight grant program and will be used to rehabilitate a critical rail spur in Crawford County.

Sen. Brooks expressed her satisfaction with securing the grant, stating, "This funding will be a tremendous help in ensuring our critical rail spur will be capable of continuing to serve one of Crawford County’s major employers and industries. I’m glad I was able to play a role in securing the grant that will enable Post Holdings Inc. to continue to provide jobs for the community and food for our beloved pets."

The rehabilitation project includes several key components. Firstly, approximately half a mile of century-old lite rail will be replaced with modern rail. Additionally, a new timber deck will be installed on the 300-foot bridge across French Creek. The project will also involve the replacement of 714 wooden cross ties, the reconstruction of three grade crossing highway surfaces at Hope, Shippen, and Mercer streets, and the improvement of drainage conditions around Mercer Street to remove ponding storm waters.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $975,017, with the railroad providing a match of $292,505. This investment in the railroad infrastructure will not only benefit Post Holdings Inc. but also contribute to the overall economic growth and development of the region.
