Rep. Mike Kelly, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania's 16th district since 2011, recently shared his views on several pressing issues via social media. His comments focused on trade tariffs and their implications for national security and foreign policy.

On February 3, 2025, Rep. Kelly expressed support for President Trump's decision to implement tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico. He stated that these actions were in line with the President's campaign promises and highlighted concerns over "deadly fentanyl from China" flowing across both the Southern and Northern borders of the United States. He criticized Canada and Mexico for doing "virtually nothing to stop it." "By implementing tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico, President Trump is keeping his campaign promise. Deadly fentanyl from China continues to flow across both our Southern and Northern borders, and Canada and Mexico have done virtually nothing to stop it."

In another tweet posted shortly after on the same day, Rep. Kelly commended President Trump for using tariffs as a tool to address national security concerns with Colombia within his first two weeks in office. He emphasized the importance of utilizing all available tools to combat cartels, improve trade relations, and resolve ongoing crises. "In just his first two weeks in office, President Trump leveraged tariffs to successfully resolve national security concerns with Colombia. We must use all of the tools in our toolbox to defeat the cartels, improve trade relations, and solve these crises."

Later that day, Rep. Kelly referenced an op-ed he authored for Newsweek regarding the strategic significance of the Panama Canal to U.S interests. He noted that President Trump was already making progress on this critical foreign policy issue facing the nation."I recently wrote this op-ed in @Newsweek highlighting just how critical the Panama Canal is to the U.S., and why President Trump is already making progress on one of the most important foreign policy matters facing our great nation."
