Senator Michele Brooks has announced a $7.5 million allocation for various improvement projects in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. The funding is part of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), aimed at fostering economic development and job growth in the region.
"Combined, these projects will serve to enhance and improve economic development, job growth, recreational opportunities and investment in our academic future in Mercer County," Brooks stated. She expressed appreciation for working with the applicants and emphasized the importance of this funding for both current and future generations.
A significant portion of the funds, $6 million, has been awarded to Lindy Paving Inc. This grant will support the construction of a new energy-efficient asphalt plant in Mercer County. Lindy Paving operates 12 asphalt plants across western Pennsylvania and employs over 1,000 full-time workers. The new facility will incorporate advanced burners, heat recovery systems, and efficient mixing equipment.
Vince Tutino, president of Lindy Paving Inc., acknowledged the support from Senator Brooks and Governor Josh Shapiro: "We are so thankful to Sen. Brooks and Gov. Josh Shapiro for their vision and leadership in helping us secure this vital funding." He highlighted that the new plant would reduce energy consumption by forty percent while creating local jobs.
Additionally, Thiel College received $250,000 to renovate its Academic Center by updating over 11,000 square feet of existing space and adding 6,200 square feet of new space.
The City Hermitage was granted $1.25 million to construct nine pickleball courts at the Hermitage Athletic Complex. This project also includes expanding parking facilities and improving pedestrian accessibility.
The RACP is managed by the Office of the Budget to support regional economic development through various improvement projects.
