Mercer County receives over $2.6 million in grants for local projects

Senator Michele Brooks and Representative Parke Wentling have announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has approved grants exceeding $2.6 million for various projects in Mercer County. The funding is aimed at infrastructure, recreation, and public safety improvements.

“These grants reflect our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Mercer County,” said Brooks. She emphasized that the funding will spur economic growth, upgrade recreational parks, and support public safety, leading to lasting impacts on community well-being.

Clark Borough will receive $135,242 for new equipment and $414,100 for improvements at Henderson Taylor Community Park. Hermitage City is set to get over $781,000 for a new Little League concession and multipurpose facility. Sharon City will benefit from a $300,000 grant for fire department upgrades.

The Penn-Northwest Economic Development Corporation and Greenville Borough will receive $150,000 to enhance Thiel College and Greenville Community Stadium facilities. Jefferson Township has been granted $100,644 for a new dump truck essential for road maintenance.

Pymatuning Township will receive more than $131,000 for equipment upgrades including a new maintenance vehicle. Farrell City is allocated $106,397 for a street sweeper replacement. Perry Township receives $489,000 to acquire maintenance equipment like a truck and boom mower.

“Our communities are constantly making improvements," Wentling stated. He highlighted the importance of bringing funds back to the district to complete necessary projects that improve life in Mercer County.

The CFA was established in 2004 under the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to administer economic stimulus packages funded by gaming revenues through the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act.
