Two state grants totaling more than $775,000 will reimburse Hermitage City and Sharon City for traffic signal improvements, according to Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50).
“We rely on local roads and traffic signals to get our kids to school, go to work and perform a variety of other everyday activities,” Brooks said. “The streets, avenues, roads and boulevards that make up our local transportation infrastructure play a key role in our community’s success. These grants will improve the quality of life for local residents by making it easier to get from one place to another.”
Hermitage City was awarded a grant for nearly $430,000 to pay for traffic signal modernization and coordination at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Council Avenue. Additional traffic signal improvements will be made at the intersections of Broadway Avenue and Mercer Avenue, Church Street and Emerson Avenue.
Sharon City was awarded a grant for more than $345,000 for traffic signal improvements at Service Avenue, Myers Avenue and Stambaugh Avenue, as well as Smith Avenue and Pine Hollow Boulevard.
The grants were approved through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Green Light-Go program. Green Light-Go grants reimburse municipalities for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of traffic signals. Grants are intended to increase safety and mobility by relieving congestion and improving traffic flow.
