Jan. 24, 2024 - The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has approved a significant funding package of nearly $8.3 million for a water service project in Sandy Lake Borough. The funding includes a grant of $4,245,927 and a low-interest loan of $4,144,073 from PENNVEST. This investment will be utilized to improve the water infrastructure in the area, benefiting the residents and enhancing the overall quality of life.
The project aims to install approximately 22,000 feet of new polyvinyl chloride C-900 waterline, along with 30 new fire hydrants and related equipment. Moreover, the existing service lines will be replaced with C-900 waterline, extending for a total of 19,000 feet. The installation of new meters for residential customers will also be included in the project.
Representative Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler), who announced the funding, expressed his satisfaction with the approval, stating, "I am pleased to see these essential community projects receiving funding assistance through PENNVEST that we have long advocated for. Completing these projects goes a long way towards making our area a safer, cleaner place to live, and doing so while reducing the costs for our local residents."
PENNVEST, which provides grants and low-interest loans for various water-related projects, plays a crucial role in supporting the development, design, and construction of both public and privately owned drinking water treatment and distribution facilities. Additionally, the organization assists with storm water and wastewater projects.
The funding provided by PENNVEST will contribute to the overall improvement of the water infrastructure in Sandy Lake Borough, ensuring a safe and reliable water supply for the community. This investment will not only enhance the quality of life but also reduce costs for the residents, making the area a better place to live.
