Crawford County has been awarded $500,000 in funding by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for two water and sewer projects, announced Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50). The grants aim to offset the costs of these projects and minimize the financial burden on the residents of the 50th District.

Sen. Brooks highlighted the financial impact of water and sewer projects on customers, stating, "Water and sewer projects are costly, and the burden to pay for them typically falls on customers in the form of system improvement charges that appear on their bills."

The Meadville Area Water Authority will receive $300,000 through the H2O PA program to replace the Hillcrest Water Storage Tank in the City of Meadville. This program, established by the General Assembly in 2008, provides grants for various construction projects related to drinking water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, flood control, and dam repair or rehabilitation.

Additionally, the Saegertown Area Sewer Authority will receive $200,000 through CFA's Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program. This funding will be used to rehabilitate the tanks and rotating biological contractor No. 3 at the Saegertown Waste Water Treatment Plant in Saegertown Borough. The SWS Program specifically supports small water, sewer, and storm water infrastructure projects.

To be eligible for the SWS Program, municipalities and municipal authorities must own and maintain a public water supply, sanitary sewer, or storm water system, with their projects exceeding a total cost of $30,000.

The grants provided by the CFA will play a crucial role in improving the water and sewer infrastructure in Crawford County. Sen. Brooks emphasized the significance of these investments, stating, "These grants work to offset project costs and minimize the impact on residents of the 50th District."

The awarded funds will contribute to the overall progress and development of Crawford County's water and sewer systems, ensuring a more efficient and reliable infrastructure for the community.
