Mercer County in Pennsylvania has received over $6.3 million in grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support various infrastructure projects, including water, sewer, and arts initiatives. The grants were announced by Sen. Michele Brooks, Rep. Parke Wentling, and Rep. Tim Bonner, who emphasized the importance of investing in local communities.

Sen. Michele Brooks expressed her appreciation for partnering with local communities to allocate investment dollars for infrastructure improvements. She highlighted the significance of these grants in offsetting the costs that would otherwise burden residents and businesses. Brooks stated, "Local infrastructure systems continue to add to the economic growth and viability for our county."

Rep. Parke Wentling specifically mentioned the funding allocated for the Hermitage Municipal Authority's Sewer Extension on South Neshannock Road. He acknowledged the high costs associated with such infrastructure projects and expressed his satisfaction that the funding will be utilized to benefit residents in the area.

Rep. Tim Bonner highlighted the importance of investing in water supply projects within communities. He stated, "Investing in these projects is an essential aspect of ensuring a safe and accessible water supply within our communities." Bonner expressed his support for the funded projects, emphasizing the need for proper funding to bring them to fruition.

In addition to the water and sewer projects, a grant of $29,028 was awarded to the Hope Center for Arts and Technology Inc. This funding was provided through the PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program, which aims to support the stability and recovery of the state's arts and culture sector post-pandemic. Sen. Michele Brooks commended this grant, stating, "Additionally, this Arts and Culture Recovery grant for the Hope Center will aid them in continuing their important work in the community."

The grants were made possible through the CFA's Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program and H2O PA Program. The SWS Program provides grants for small water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects, while the H2O PA Program supports the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and flood control projects. Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain public water supply, sanitary sewer, or stormwater systems are eligible to apply for these grants.

The funding received by Mercer County will contribute to the development and improvement of crucial infrastructure systems. These investments are vital for the economic growth and sustainability of the county.
