The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) has granted $4,000 in funding to the Mercer County Historical Society, according to an announcement made by Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer). The funding was awarded through the PHMC's Cultural and Historical Grant Program, which aims to provide general operating support to museums and historical societies in Pennsylvania.

Wentling expressed his excitement about the funding, stating, "As a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commissioner, I'm thrilled that our county has been chosen to receive some of this important funding. It's incredibly important to remember where we came from. This money will help historians across the Commonwealth do just that."

The grants were awarded based on a formula that took into account a percentage of each organization's annual operating budget. In total, 158 organizations across 58 out of the Commonwealth's 67 counties received grants.

The Mercer County Historical Society can now utilize the funds to further its mission of preserving and promoting the history of Mercer County. This financial support will undoubtedly enable the society to carry out its important work of collecting, documenting, and showcasing the rich heritage of the region.

The PHMC's Cultural and Historical Grant Program plays a vital role in ensuring the preservation of Pennsylvania's history. By providing funding to organizations that may not have access to other state programs, the program helps to maintain the cultural fabric of the state and allows historians and researchers to delve deeper into the past.

This recent allocation of funds to the Mercer County Historical Society signifies the recognition of the society's contributions to preserving the history of the county. It also serves as a testament to the importance of historical preservation for future generations.

The impact of this funding extends beyond the society itself. It will have a ripple effect on the community, as the society's efforts to preserve and promote the county's history will attract visitors, boost tourism, and contribute to the local economy.

With the support of the PHMC's Cultural and Historical Grant Program, the Mercer County Historical Society can continue to fulfill its mission and play a crucial role in educating and inspiring the community about their shared heritage.

As the society moves forward with its work, it is essential for individuals and organizations to recognize the significance of preserving our history. In the words of Rep. Wentling, "It's incredibly important to remember where we came from." With the help of grants like these, historians and historical societies across Pennsylvania can continue to do just that.
