WASHINGTON, D.C. -- On May 31, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued this statement following passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, an agreement between House Republicans and President Biden that will both raise the debt ceiling and cut spending to avoid the nation's first-ever default.
"I am proud to vote for the Fiscal Responsibility Act. This bill will continue to pay the bills of America while also defunding IRS agents, enabling American energy, and cutting inflationary Progressive spending. This deal is a win for the American people and families in Western Pennsylvania," Rep. Kelly said. "Moving forward, it's incredibly important that both Congress and the Biden administration curb this out-of-control spending and lower our national debt, which is now nearly $32 trillion. Our national debt is a threat to our national security. No business could survive spending money the way the federal government does. I look forward to working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to get our fiscal policy back on track to avoid a crisis like this one in the future."
