Penn State University issued the following announcement.
As Penn State prepares for the end-of-year break, the University has updated the availability of walk-up and mail-in virus testing, campus health and counseling services, its COVID hotline and student support services.
Walk-Up Testing
Walk-up testing at the Hintz Family Alumni Center at University Park campus will be closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 28 and Jan. 1. Besides those dates, walk-up testing will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Walk-up testing at University Park is available for all students — living either on- or off-campus — and for employees listed in Penn State’s “Return to Work” database.
Mail-In Testing
Mail-in testing at Commonwealth Campuses will be available from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3.
COVID-19 Response Center
From Dec. 24 through Jan. 3, the COVID-19 Response Center, available at 814-865-2121 for faculty, staff, students and their families, will adjust its hours as follows:
- Dec. 24: Noon to 2 p.m.
- Dec. 25: Closed
- Dec. 26: Noon to 2 p.m.
- Dec. 27: Closed
- Dec. 28-31: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Jan. 1: Closed
- Jan. 2: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Jan. 3: Closed
Contact Tracing
Contact tracing will continue to be provided as needed during the break.
University Health Services
University Health Services (UHS) will be open from Dec. 21 to 23, and the nurse advice line will be available 24/7 at 814-863-4463 to students at all campus locations throughout the break.
Students can schedule a virtual appointment online using myUHS.
UHS testing will be available for students from 9 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 28 and 31 (appointment needed). Clinicians will be available to review test results as needed.
UHS will resume regular operating hours Jan. 4 to 8.
Commonwealth Campus Health Services
Commonwealth Campus Health Services will operate normally Dec. 21 to 23, and the nurse advice line will continue to be available 24/7 to all students at all Penn State locations throughout the break.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
CAPS will operate regularly Dec. 21 to 23. The 24/7 crisis line for CAPS will continue to be available to all students, and those concerned for a student. The University will also be providing additional support to students living in on-campus residences during the break.
The Penn State Crisis Line is available around the clock at 877-229-6400 or by texting “LIONS” to 74141.
CAPS will resume normal operations on Jan. 4.
Student Support
During the break, Student Support Services will continue to be provided as needed.
Residence Life staff members will be on call to respond to students in need, as well as any students in quarantine and isolation. Quarantine and isolation space will still be provided to students as needed.
Students who are residing on campus are reminded that they must continue their weekly coronavirus testing, and continue with masking, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.
Employee Services
- Occupational Medicine: Will be closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3, but staff members will monitor psuoccmed@psu.edu and address employee questions and issues, as appropriate, including contact tracing.
- Absence Management: Will be closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3, but staff will monitor absence@psu.edu and respond as appropriate.
