U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) visited Erie's Sphere Brake Defense, Inc. on Wednesday, April 24, following the company's recent funding included in the Defense Appropriations bill in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 federal budget. Kelly was accompanied by Aaron "A.J." Lewis, Sphere Brake Defense Co-Founder & CEO, and Jason Pintea, Sphere Brake Defense Lean Leader.

Kelly expressed his admiration for the company's growth, stating, "Over the years, I've had a front-row seat to watch Sphere Brake Defense grow from a startup into a leader in the defense industry. The best part is -- they are doing it right here in Erie." He emphasized the importance of equipping the military in uncertain times, noting that the funding will benefit service members and defense providers.

Aaron "AJ" Lewis, Co-Founder & CEO of Sphere Brake Defense, highlighted the significance of the funding for their sphere brake technology. He stated, "Defense funding for tactical wheeled vehicles and modernization have been constrained to meet topline goals across appropriations. That is anticipated to continue through 2026. We were able to work with Congressman Kelly and his appropriations staff, in partnership with the program managers from the Department of Defense to secure critical funding for our sphere brake technology."

Lewis further explained that the funding will support the transition from research and development into limited rate initial production in 2024 and 2025 for several military vehicles in support of the Army, Marine Corps, and USSOCOM. He emphasized the opportunity to advance American-made technology while creating new job opportunities in the district.

Sphere Brake Defense, a veteran-owned business known for its innovative brake system technology, developed the first sphere brake system. Their patented technology offers advantages over traditional brake systems, such as the ability to change brake pads without tools or wheel removal.

The company's groundbreaking work in the defense industry continues to make strides, contributing to advancements in military vehicle technology.
