Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) expressed his satisfaction with the more than $2 million in funding allocated to schools in the 17th Legislative District for school safety and student mental health resources. The funds were approved by the School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) under the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), which approved $47 million statewide in grants to enhance safety, security, and mental health initiatives for students across Pennsylvania.
Bonner stated, "I am beyond pleased to see this significant investment into our student’s education, safety and good health," emphasizing the importance of investing in the well-being of students and educators to improve the overall quality of education in Pennsylvania. The funds will benefit various public and non-public schools in Mercer and Butler counties, including schools like Grove City, Greenville Area, Lakeview, Mercer Area, Reynolds, Moniteau, Karns City, and Slippery Rock.
The allocated funds aim to support the School Safety and Security Committee's objective of ensuring that all Pennsylvania students can learn in safe and healthy school environments by addressing basic safety needs and mental health services. These initiatives align with the committee's recently adopted Revised Baseline Criteria Standards.
The funding distribution reflects a commitment to prioritizing student safety and mental health in educational settings, ultimately contributing to a safer and more conducive learning environment for students.
