Nearly $2 million in state funding has been allocated to support transportation and municipal infrastructure projects in Pennsylvania’s 7th Legislative District, according to an announcement from Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer). The funds come from the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) and the Small Water and Sewer program.

“These projects will improve transportation and upgrade essential water and sewer infrastructure across the 7th Legislative District,” said Wentling.

Three transportation initiatives are set to receive support. Hermitage is awarded $500,000 for constructing roadways and trails at the LindenPointe Innovative Business Campus. Jamestown will receive $232,158, covering its full request, for new or replacement sidewalks on Main Street, Jackson Street, and Water Street. Sharon is allocated $350,000 to install traffic signage, enhance traffic signals, and widen North Dock Street.

The MTF provides financial assistance for projects that develop or enhance transportation assets in existing communities. This includes streetscape improvements, lighting upgrades, sidewalk enhancements, pedestrian safety measures, improved connectivity of transportation assets, and transit-oriented development.

Five municipal infrastructure projects will also benefit from this funding round. The Hermitage Municipal Authority receives $250,000 to install a gravity sewer main along Dermond Road in Hermitage. This project aims to eliminate on-lot disposal systems and address public health hazards in the area. Sharon gets $100,000 for improvements to 50 catch basins within the city. The Jamestown Municipal Authority is granted $100,000 for renovations at the local water treatment plant. The Sharon City Sanitary Authority secures $100,000 to relocate sewer lines needed for bridge 2339 improvements. Shenango Township Municipal Authority will use its $250,000 grant for pump station upgrades along State Route 18 north.

The Small Water and Sewer grants are intended to help with construction or repairs of water supply systems as well as sanitary sewer systems, storm sewers, or flood control projects.
