In 2024, Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, spent $102,031 on its women’s basketball teams, falling $469,693 short of the state average expenditure of $571,724, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This amount accounted for 3.9% of the college’s total athletic spending during the same year.

Since 2010, Thiel College’s overall sports-related expenses have increased by 87.9%.

Basketball is one of the most popular college sports in the United States alongside football, with major NCAA programs drawing fan support and television audiences that can rival those of the NBA. Tournaments such as March Madness attract millions of viewers each year.
