Senator Michele Brooks has announced a grant exceeding $9 million from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) allocated to the Borough of Jackson Center. This substantial funding will be used to build a new wastewater treatment plant that aims to address crucial public health, environmental, and infrastructure needs in the area.

"This investment is a game-changer for local residents," remarked Senator Brooks. "It ensures reliable wastewater service, protects our waterways and supports local economic development – all while working to prevent skyrocketing costs for users."

The existing plant in Jackson Center has been in service for several decades and is presently plagued by severe mechanical and structural issues. These complications have resulted in frequent repair needs and violations pertaining to effluent discharge. Additionally, the plant struggles to handle increased inflows from nearby industrial developments and is unable to incorporate advanced nitrogen and phosphorus removal technologies. The absence of emergency backup power further exacerbates the risks during outages.

The newly approved funding will allow for the replacement of the outdated facility, ensuring it meets both present and future demands. Approximately 104 households in Jackson Center and parts of Jackson Township are expected to benefit from reliable wastewater services. The project is set to address and resolve critical issues highlighted in the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Corrective Action Plan, thereby ensuring complete compliance with state regulations.

The project will not only involve constructing the new 98,000-gallons-per-day plant along Bradley Road in Jackson Township but also the demolition of existing facilities once the new plant is operational.

PENNVEST, an independent state agency, provides financial support for sewer, stormwater, and potable water projects across Pennsylvania communities.
