Senator Michele Brooks announced a $1.1 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) awarded to the Jamestown Municipal Authority. The funds will support the rehabilitation of the authority's aging sanitary sewer collection system.
Senator Brooks stated, "Securing this grant is a significant step toward enhancing our local infrastructure. By addressing the critical needs of our wastewater system, we are investing in the health and well-being of our residents and supporting the sustainability of our community.”
The current wastewater system, originally constructed in the mid-20th century using cement pipes, is now due for updating. The planned project involves lining approximately 14,500 feet of these pipes with cured-in-place material, extending their lifespan by about six years. There will also be isolated spot repairs as necessary.
This rehabilitation aims to maintain the functionality and longevity of the community's sewer system. The improvements are crucial for preventing infiltration and inflow issues in the system used by this small, rural municipality.
PENNVEST operates as an independent state agency, extending financial support for sewer, storm water, and drinking water projects throughout Pennsylvania. For more details, contact Adam Gingrich at 717-787-1322.
