U.S. Representative Mike Kelly has announced the commencement of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition, which invites high school students from Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Lawrence, and Butler counties, as well as a portion of Venango County, to participate. The competition provides an opportunity for young artists to have their work exhibited in the U.S. Capitol.
"The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents and to have their work displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol," stated Rep. Kelly. He noted that in 2024 there was a record number of participants and expressed anticipation for this year's submissions.
Students are required to submit their artwork by April 18, 2025, at one of Kelly's district offices located in Erie, Sharon, or Butler. An awards ceremony will be held later in the year to honor the winners.
Further information regarding contest rules and regulations can be accessed on Rep. Kelly's website.
Last year’s competition saw Braiden Douds from Mercer Area High School emerge as the winner among 73 entries from 13 schools within the district.
The winning pieces from each congressional district will be showcased in the Cannon House Office Building Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol complex for nearly a year. This annual event is organized by the Congressional Institute with an aim to promote arts and culture among high school students.
