Senator Michele Brooks has announced the approval of state funding for several parks projects in Crawford, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. This initiative aims to enhance outdoor recreational opportunities within the 50th District.
"One of the great parts of living in the 50th District is that we’re blessed to have many wonderful outdoor recreational opportunities. Now, because of the partnership between the General Assembly and DCNR, there will be more new ways for families to enjoy healthy activities outside while improving the existing places we currently have," Brooks stated.
In Crawford County, Meadville City will receive $24,500 to develop a master site plan for Fifth Ward Park. The project includes an electronic report and a site development drawing.
Lawrence County's New Castle City is set to receive $75,000 for Deshon Park's rehabilitation. The funds will cover renovations including a baseball field upgrade, construction of walkways and dugouts, parking area improvements, installation of bleachers, ADA access enhancements, landscaping, and other site improvements.
Wampum Borough in Lawrence County will benefit from $73,000 aimed at rehabilitating Wampum Park. Planned work involves renovating the baseball field and dugouts; constructing pedestrian walkways; installing fencing; enhancing ADA access; landscaping; adding a project sign; and other related improvements.
Stoneboro Borough in Mercer County has been allocated $100,000 for Stoneboro Community Park's rehabilitation. This includes building a comfort station, pedestrian walkway and parking area construction; utility installations; ADA access enhancements; landscaping; project signage; among other upgrades.
The grants are part of the Community Conservation Partnerships Program which supports planning and development efforts for public parks and recreation areas.
