Senator Michele Brooks and Representative Marla Brown have announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has allocated over $3.5 million in grants for various projects in Lawrence County. These funds are aimed at improving infrastructure, boosting economic development, and enhancing educational facilities.
“These projects will make a significant difference in the daily lives of the residents of Lawrence County,” said Brooks. “From improving sewage treatment plants to upgrading infrastructure in our schools and enhancing recreational spaces, the grant funding announced today will help ensure the long-term prosperity and well-being of our communities. I appreciate the opportunity to work together with our local partners to secure this funding and look forward to doing more in the future.”
Among the recipients is the Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation, which will receive $225,000 for renovations to an industrial office building in New Castle City. This project aims to attract new tenants and stimulate business growth.
In North Beaver Township, $150,000 has been designated for electrical improvements at the Hickory Run Sewage Treatment Plant, while Mahoning Township will use its $150,000 grant for wastewater treatment upgrades.
The Stavich Bike Trail in New Castle will benefit from a $100,000 rehabilitation grant to enhance safety and promote outdoor activities. South New Castle Borough is set to construct a salt shed with a $75,000 grant.
“Investing in our community’s infrastructure is key to enhancing the safety, quality of life and economic future of our residents,” said Brown. “These grants will empower local governments and organizations to make vital improvements to wastewater systems, transportation and public facilities. I’m proud to support these initiatives, which will help lay the groundwork for a stronger, more prosperous community in the 9th district.”
Taylor Township's sewage treatment plant upgrades will be supported by a $500,000 grant for constructing a new digester among other enhancements. Bessemer Municipal Authority was awarded $450,000 for crucial equipment upgrades at their wastewater treatment plant.
Wilmington Township received $436,454 for purchasing a tractor with attachments necessary for maintenance tasks such as mowing and snow plowing.
In education-related developments, Mohawk Area School District secured $650,000 for facility improvements. The Union Area School District also received $650,000 for similar purposes while New Castle Area School District was granted $200,000 for window replacements at George Washington Intermediate School.
The CFA was established as part of Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development efforts to administer economic stimulus packages funded through gaming revenues under state law.
