Mercer County receives over $2.6 million in grants for community projects

Senator Michele Brooks and Representative Parke Wentling have announced the approval of over $2.6 million in grants by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for various projects in Mercer County. These funds are intended to enhance infrastructure, recreation, and public safety across the region.

“These grants reflect our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Mercer County,” stated Brooks. She emphasized that the funding will spur economic growth, improve recreational parks, and bolster public safety, resulting in lasting benefits for local communities.

Clark Borough is set to receive $135,242 for new equipment to replace outdated machinery from 2006. Additionally, Clark Borough has been awarded $414,100 for improvements at Henderson Taylor Community Park, which include two new pickleball courts and upgrades to the baseball field.

Hermitage City will obtain more than $781,000 for constructing a Little League concession and multipurpose facility. This facility will provide space for various functions including concession sales and ADA accessible restrooms.

Sharon City has been granted $300,000 aimed at modernizing its fire department as part of public safety enhancements.

The Penn-Northwest Economic Development Corporation, working with Greenville Borough, will receive $150,000 to upgrade Thiel College and Greenville Community Stadium facilities.

Jefferson Township is allocated $100,644 for a new dump truck essential for road maintenance. Pymatuning Township will receive over $131,000 for a new maintenance vehicle replacing an older diesel truck.

Farrell City is granted $106,397 to purchase a street sweeper needed to clear debris from roadways. Perry Township is allocated $489,000 for acquiring equipment such as a truck and boom mower to maintain local infrastructure.

“Our communities are constantly making improvements," said Wentling. "Bringing this money back to the district is critical to completing these projects."

The CFA was established in 2004 under the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to manage economic stimulus packages funded through gaming revenues within Pennsylvania.
