U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) has been appointed Chairman of the Bipartisan House Task Force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, which took place in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. The task force will consist of seven Republicans and six Democrats.
Kelly introduced legislation to form the task force last week, which was unanimously passed by the House on Wednesday.
"I want to thank Speaker Johnson for appointing me to this important and solemn role. As we launch this task force, it's important that we set politics aside and work together to restore the faith, trust, and confidence in our government for the American people," said Rep. Kelly. "It's critical that we investigate, detail, and explain the security breakdowns that tragically killed one person, injured two others, and nearly claimed President Trump's life."
Speaker Mike Johnson and Leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed confidence in the bipartisan group's ability to find facts and ensure accountability.
The Republican members joining Kelly include:
- Rep. Mark Green (TN-07), a former U.S. Army major.
- Rep. David Joyce (OH-14), an attorney with 25 years of experience.
- Rep. Laurel Lee (FL-15), a former judge.
- Rep. Michael Waltz (FL-06), retired from U.S. Army Special Forces.
- Rep. Clay Higgins (LA-03), a former law enforcement officer.
- Rep. Pat Fallon (TX-04), a former U.S. Air Force officer.
The Democratic members are:
- Ranking Member Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), a decorated Army Ranger.
- Rep. Lou Correa (CA-46), senior member of Judiciary Committees.
- Rep. Madeleine Dean (PA-04), serving on Judiciary Committees.
- Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), veteran of United States Air Force.
- Rep. Glenn Ivey (MD-04), former Assistant U.S Attorney.

The Task Force is empowered with all investigative authority of the House of Representatives including subpoena authority.
On July 24, the House unanimously passed H.Res 1367 establishing this task force after a vote of 416–0.
