HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) has announced that the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PBFC) has released its 2024 trout stocking schedules. The schedules are now available online and can also be accessed through the FishBoatPA mobile app. Hard copies of the schedule can be obtained at Wentling's local offices in Shenango Valley and Greenville.
"Fishing is not only a popular activity, but it also provides significant economic benefits," said Wentling. "Fishing supports local businesses and local jobs."
In 2024, the PFBC plans to stock approximately 3.2 million adult trout in 697 streams and 129 lakes open to public angling. This number is consistent with the stocking levels of the past decade. The stocked trout will consist of approximately 2.4 million Rainbow Trout, 702,000 Brown Trout, and 132,000 Brook Trout. The average size of the stocked trout will be 11 inches in length with an average weight of 0.58 pounds.
To prepare for the upcoming season, stocking operations are scheduled to begin in the week of February 19. The statewide opening day of trout season in Pennsylvania is set for Saturday, April 6. Prior to that, a single, statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day will take place on Saturday, March 30.
In order to participate in trout fishing, anglers aged 16 and older must possess a fishing license and a trout permit. Anglers and boaters can get a head start on their preparations by purchasing their fishing licenses, launch permits, and boat registration renewals online, through the FishBoatPA mobile app, or by visiting one of the approximately 700 retail license issuing agents.
Fishing enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers can find more information on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's website.
"By making the stocking schedules easily accessible, the PFBC and Rep. Wentling are ensuring that anglers across Pennsylvania can plan their fishing trips and make the most out of the upcoming trout season," said Jake Gillespie, representative for Rep. Wentling.
With the release of the 2024 trout stocking schedules, anglers can now look forward to a successful and enjoyable fishing season in Pennsylvania.
