THIEL COLLEGE: Thiel College fraternity holds walk to honor steps taken by first-responders during 9/11

Foster

Thiel College issued the following announcement.

On Friday, Sept. 11, members of the Thiel College fraternity Kappa Sigma were joined by two volunteer firefighters from a nearby department to take part in a symbolic walk at the Town of Greenville’s Plimpton Graul Amphitheater in Riverside Park in memory of the first responders who perished in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“We thought this would be a good idea in remembrance of 9/11 and our first responders who passed away that day,” chapter president Charlie Lichtenwalter ’22 told the Greenville Record-Argus newspaper on Friday.

Participants walked 13.5 laps around the amphitheater to symbolize the 4,452 steps emergency personnel went up to rescue those trapped in the World Trade Center towers.

Local high school students and members of the Pulaski Township Volunteer Fire Department, Cadan Stuble and Tyler Allison, walked the event in with their coats, helmets and boots on.

Thiel College sophomore Walter Holtgrefe ’23—a sophomore from Erie who is also a volunteer firefighter with Kuhl Hose in Greene Township—participated in the walk and was among about the two dozen participants for the event that Lichtenwalter said he could see becoming an annual walk.
