Senator Michele Brooks announced the approval of over $9.5 million in state funding aimed at enhancing water infrastructure in New Castle, located in Lawrence County. The funds, provided by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), will enable Pennsylvania American Water Company to proceed with a project focusing on replacing old water mains, which will improve service reliability and water quality for local residents and businesses.
The approved funding package includes a $3,962,140 low-interest loan at 1% and a $5,565,850 grant. According to Brooks, “This funding is an investment in the future of New Castle. Dependable infrastructure is about more than replacing pipes – it’s about supporting families, attracting new employers and ensuring our communities remain strong for the future. Reliable waterlines can also assist our fire departments in responding to fire emergencies. I also understand how expensive these projects are, and I hope this funding will help offset additional costs to residents.”
Improvements under the project will involve replacing outdated water lines, installing new valves and hydrants, and making upgrades to enhance system performance and reliability over the long term.
PENNVEST operates as an independent state agency offering financial assistance for sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania.
