Rep. Tim Bonner announced that communities in the 17th Legislative District will receive over $450,000 from Marcellus Shale impact fees. Butler County is set to receive more than $1.6 million, while Mercer County will get over $206,000.

“I am glad to see so many communities benefiting from natural gas drilling,” Bonner stated. “These revenues are strengthening local economies, enabling important public projects and delivering lasting benefits to Mercer and Butler counties.”

The impact fee disbursements for the 17th District include: Allegheny Township receiving $58,932; Bruin Borough with $2,392; Cherry Township at $17,178; Concord Township getting $62,726; and Slippery Rock Township with $42,190 among others.

Under Act 13 of 2012, these fees are collected from drilling companies. Sixty percent is returned to affected counties and municipalities. The rest goes into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund for county use or state activities like emergency response planning and infrastructure maintenance.

Checks to municipalities are expected in early July.
