Rep. Parke Wentling announced that the Keystone Community Education Council has been awarded a $600,000 grant from the Supporting Certified Teacher Registered Apprenticeship (CTRA) Program. This funding will be used to support apprenticeship certification for 32 educators in collaboration with local school districts and career and technical centers.
Wentling, reflecting on his background as an industrial arts and technology education teacher, stated, “This grant provides support for securing new teachers and helping students reach their goals.”
Lance Hummer, executive director of the Keystone Community Education Council, expressed enthusiasm about the program’s potential impact. “This funding creates an incredible opportunity for the five career and technical schools and four school districts we will be partnering with for this program,” he said. “This will expand education opportunities for students across our area, and I could not be more excited for this program to start.”
The CTRA program is a collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. It aims to provide an innovative pathway that allows individuals to earn while they learn, thereby strengthening the teacher workforce.
