HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today that the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) has granted the city of Farrell a $25,000 Law Enforcement Recruitment grant. The purpose of this grant is to support Act 120 training and recruitment activities for law enforcement officers in the area.

In a statement, Wentling expressed his support for the initiative, stating, "The city of Farrell currently has a great group of officers being led by Chief Erick Gatewood." He also highlighted the importance of the funding in expanding the police force and attracting dedicated officers to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. "This funding will help them expand the force and recruit more hardworking officers to protect and serve the community," Wentling added.

The grant is designed to assist eligible law enforcement agencies that are unable to cover the costs of Act 120 training. Agencies can request up to $7,000 per new officer for training expenses. Alternatively, if the agency hires officers who are already Act 120 trained, they can apply for up to $5,000 per new officer to support stipends, signing bonuses, or marketing efforts. The funding for this program is made possible through the Local Law Enforcement Support (LLES) Grant Program established under Act 54 of 2022.

The initiative aims to enhance the capabilities and professionalism of law enforcement officers in Farrell, ultimately leading to a safer and more secure environment for residents. Rep. Parke Wentling's announcement underscores the commitment to supporting local law enforcement and ensuring the highest standards of public safety in the community.
