Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) revealed today that the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has granted $40,000 to assist the Mercer County Food Bank's MilitaryShare program. This initiative offers nine annual private food distributions for veterans, military personnel, and their families at various locations in Mercer County, benefiting over 600 individuals.

"The Mercer County Food Bank conducts several direct distribution programs," Wentling stated. "MilitaryShare is specifically designed to give back to our service members and their families. They’ve sacrificed so much to ensure our safety, and this funding will go a long way toward ensuring their cupboards stay full throughout the year."

The funding for this program is sourced from DMVA's Veterans’ Trust Fund (VTF), which is supported by the contributions of Pennsylvanians who voluntarily donate $5 when applying for or renewing their driver’s license, photo ID, or a motor vehicle registration. Additionally, the VTF receives funds from the sale of special license plates like "Honoring Our Veterans" and "Honoring Our Women Veterans," along with private donations. Since its inception in 2013, the grant program has allocated nearly $7.5 million to organizations aiding Pennsylvania veterans.
